Baltic states voice unwavering support for Georgia’s NATO accession

Lithuanian Minister of National Defence J.Olekas, Minister of Defence of Estonia Hannes Hanso and Minister of Defence of Latvia Raimonds Bergmanis on May 25 met with their Georgian counterpart, Minister Tinatin Khidasheli in Tbilisi. At the meeting Minister J.Olekas reiterated Lithuania’s commitment to support Georgia’s aspirations for NATO membership and to assist in the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. “I assure you that Lithuania will sustain its contribution to the NATO-Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Centre for as long as there is a need to, also, we are prepared to a consider additional assistance. We are also willing to take part NATO exercises in Georgia,” Minister J. Olekas said at the meeting. In his turn, Minister Hanso outlined ““Georgia’s strength is that its people and public opinion are strongly in favour of integration with NATO. Estonia has always supported Georgia’s aspirations towards NATO and will continue to do so with advice and encouragement.”
